Wednesday prattle
I'm at my home away from home this morning because there are some server problems which have caused Sugarfused to be knocked offline. Again. Storms, perhaps...they were ferocious here last night. I heard the trashcans blowing down the driveway in the middle of the night, and when I got to work this morning, I found several tree limbs and many parking lot signs had been toppled. Of course, I have no idea where the server is actually located so who knows what's happened.
Anyway, things are good here. I was able to hire a new employee this morning, and I have another one hoping to start next week. I'm beginning to see a little light at the end of the tunnel, and I think in two weeks time, I'll be fully staffed again. There are some big projects to complete in the near future, and I am anxious to get started on them. I despise having to keep putting things off due to lack of staff but I've had no choice lately.
Scott reminded me that he only has 5 more weeks of day shift left. We've enjoyed our work schedules so much this summer, and I hate like hell that it will all change again when school starts. I keep hoping that they'll ask him to swap shifts with someone, but he tells me it just isn't going to happen. Sigh.
My parents returned from their trip to Wisconsin where they had been visiting my sister and her family. They stayed three weeks and helped them move into their newly built house. They watched the kids, helped clean and pack, and my sister better appreciate what all they've done lol. When I talked to mom on Sunday she sure sounded tired and really glad to be home. I should call her today and invite her to lunch tomorrow. It's been too long since we've seen each other, and I'm ready for another lunch at the Mexican place :=)
Which reminds me...I have weigh-in tomorrow. Dread it - dread it. I feel all bloated and puffy and fat, but I'm determined to not put it off like I did last week. I need to stay for the meeting, too. They really do help keep me on plan, and I've missed sitting in on them the last few weeks. Lately, I've just been running in and weighing and then right back to work. I'm afraid I've reached a plateau because the scales don't seem to be budging lately.
Enough for now...I gotta scoot on back to work. If anyone sees this today, thanks for reading and I hope to be back at my regular blog tomorrow ;~))
Faretheewell little froggies

Pregnancy myths
I took Carrie to her OB appointment this morning. The baby's heartbeat was a steady 120 beats per minute.
Do you believe in any of those old wives tales??
The appointment for her 20-week ultrasound is July 8. We're hoping the little bugger won't have its legs crossed that day and will smile for the camera, so to speak...
Everything's good! I'm having so much fun that I may start going with her to every appointment lol.
Recipe Blog
Jenn of Witchy Mom fame has started a new cooking/recipe weblog called What's Cooking With Jenn. She's collecting favorite recipes from fellow bloggers and sharing them with the world.
You can participate, too! Go track down your tastiest, most family-pleasing recipe and send it to Jenn. Better yet, go find one your grandma used to make :))
TV Tuesday
Week 13 - Daytime Talk TV
From the tame and elegant setting of Oprah to the wild and crazy brawls of Jerry Springer daytime talk TV has a little bit of everything. They've got make-overs, psychics, paternity suits and things you'd rather not know about but their ratings are through the roof!! Like them or hate them they're part of TV culture.
1. Do you watch daytime talk TV? If so, which shows do you watch? Do you prefer the calm shows like Oprah or the wilder side like Jerry Springer? There's a television always blaring in the room just outside my office, so I'm able to catch whatever is on when I pass through. Typically, it's cartoons, Fox News, Judge Joe Brown (he's a hoot), or City Confidential (I love Keith David's voice. I want him to read me a bedtime story ;) Jerry Springer's fun sometimes. I got a pretty big kick out of the midget KKK members - not politically correct, of course, but too damn silly not to laugh :)
2. Which daytime talk TV show would you like to be on? What would the topic be? Oh, I'd love to be on Oprah. I'd enjoy being part of her little book club inner circle. I'd also like to be on Dr. Phil's show talking about his weightloss program.
3. Is there a daytime talk TV show you miss that's no longer on the air? Is there someone you'd like to see get a daytime talk TV show? Well, the one I remember the most was the Michael Douglas Show. I still remember watching Sonny & Cher sing there. God, I'm old...
I also loved Phil Donahue because his shows tended to be a little raunchy sometimes. He was ahead of his time, no doubt about it.
~Bonus~ Before talk TV took over game shows ruled the airways during the day, which do you prefer? Or are you a soap opera fan? Game shows!! I love them. I want to be on one. I want to spin the wheel, solve the puzzle and see what's behind Door #2. I used to watch soaps when I was younger - All My Children, General Hospital, Young and the Restless. That was before they became totally idiotic lol.
It seems there were two frogs sitting on a lily pad...
...when all of a sudden, a fly came along. One frog put out his tongue, ate the fly, and started laughing hysterically. Soon the other frog joined in the laughter. Later in the day, the other frog ate a fly and the two frogs burst out in laughter. As time went on, the frogs enjoyed the flies so much that the sight of a fly would cause them to double up with pleasure (if it's possible for frogs to double up!). But of course, the most pleasure came when the fly was actually eaten. A third frog hopped up to the first two and asked what was so funny. The first frog answered "Time." "Huh?" asked the third frog. The second frog explained: "Time's fun when your having flies."
Monday Madness
1. In your opinion, what is the perfect temperature? 68 degrees
2. If you have a garden, what do you plant in it? If not, what would you plant in it? I'd love to have a garden, but I don't have room for one. I love fresh vegetables so I'd plant lettuce, onions, peppers, tomatoes (for Scott because personally I loath them - gag!), squash, radishes, potatoes and corn. Then, I'd have to find room to plant strawberries lol.
3. What is your favorite summertime beverage? fruit tea
4. How many times a year do you rearrange your living room? I can't remember the last time I rearranged a room! The living room and den in my house don't have much flexibility so things are pretty much where I left them when I moved in nearly 10 years ago. That's kind of sad... :(
5. How fast do you drive in a '55 mile-an-hour' zone? 60 - I've always heard that cops are pretty lenient up to 5MPH over the speed limit. Once, I got three speeding tickets in a week. I slowed down after that lol.
6. How many minutes per day do you usually talk on the phone? hmmm. Some days my phone rings off the hook at work, so anywhere from 10-20 times I'd say. Other days it hardly rings at all :))
7. What is your favorite software program? one that doesn't break
8. How many music cd's do you own? I have no idea. Many. Many, many.
9. How many memes do you participate in on a regular basis? Three. This one, Unconscious Mutterings and TV Tuesday.
10. Name 3 blogs that you have on your 'blogroll' list. (any 3.)
Atypical Female - the girl with the hedgehog
Jenett Radio - where Sugar's buddies Mojo and Mimi live
The Heart of Dixie - proud mom to Piggy Sue :)
Reagan Memorial

Son of a legend
Anita linked to this very interesting piece on bluesman Robert Johnson's son. Claude Johnson is a 72-yr. old ex-gravel hauler now living in a house "with more rooms than he has furniture".
"In the midst of all this celebrity is Claud Johnson, who did not know until he was almost 40 that his father had recorded music."
Born out of wedlock to 17-year-old Virgie Mae Smith, he was mostly raised by Virgie Mae's father, a preacher and sharecropper, in a house where music was slapped back like the creeping fingertips of the devil.
If the blues came on the radio, a hand flew to the radio and switched it off. Once, Claud's uncle bought him a guitar, but his grandfather told him to put it down immediately.
His grandparents told him his father was Robert Johnson, a blues singer.
Monday, Monday
Time flies.
Saturday we attended my son-in-law's college graduation in Goodlettsville and celebrated with a large group of family members at the Olive Garden after the ceremony. We really had a nice time! The graduating class was small (he received a degree in commercial art), and the atmosphere was happy and relaxed. The drive up there and back was a pain because of the on-going road construction and heavy traffic, but I somehow managed to get us there in one piece and didn't even get lost in the process. Amazing, considering the fact that I have absolutely no sense of direction...
We didn't get back home until 8 PM that night. There was a Books-A-Million across the road from the restaurant, so you know we had to check it out being as we were so close lol. I picked up two paperback novels and a wonderful book on grilling while Scott opted for yet another political read. We were exhausted by the time we got home, but it was a good day, and I really enjoyed getting away.
Sunday was spent doing as much nothing as possible, and before I could bat an eyelash, the alarm was blaring and it was Monday all over again.
Work is slow right now, and I'm having to look for things to keep me busy which is a drag. I have two vacant positions I need to fill quickly and spent a huge chunk of time last week interviewing. Two of the three candidates I passed along to HR for processing didn't even get through the criminal background checks without throwing up red flags. Boy, I can really pick 'em...
I suppose I've rambled long enough. I'm still unsettled in this temporary place and have tired of the frogs already. Maybe I'll play with templates today. {sigh}
BTW....Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Did you know that vanilla ice cream outsells chocolate by 300%? I promise to do my part if you do, too ;~))
Have a marvelous Monday, all :)
I was saddened to hear of President Reagan's death. I thought he was a great president and a genuinely good person. I can't imagine how much Mrs. Reagan will miss him...it's all so sad. He's never really been with her for the past ten years due to his illness.
If you've never read the book Nancy published of the love letters he wrote to her over the many years they were together, I highly recommend it. I couldn't help but love the man for his goofy charm and zest for life. The book is "I Love You Ronnie" and is available at Amazon.
Here's one of the better written news articles about Ronald Reagan that I've read today.
Home away from home
It looks like my Sugarfused MT weblog is going to be down several more days, so I will be posting here at my temp site until the server issues are resolved. I'd appreciate your help in sharing this weblog link so that anyone else who may be looking can find me! I miss my weblog, but I'm glad I had this one to fall back on. Blogger's pretty easy to work with, and I moved my blogroll over here for easier access.
I'm still tweaking things here and will update later in the day about our weekend :)
Have a great Sunday, everyone!
It wouldn't be Sunday without a few mutterings :)

Saturday Musings
I've been up since 7:00 AM, my other site is down again, so I'm not in a very good mood this morning. One of the things I love about my Saturdays is being able to write in my weblog and catch up on my reading. This is the second weekend I've been unable to access my page, and when it's down I miss it terribly. Oh well. Hell. It's not like I don't have other things to do. If you could see my house, you'd know what I mean lol.
Playing a little Blogshares this morning. Can't seem to move past #68 in the rankings no matter how hard I try. Scott's creeping up on me, and I'll be damned if I'll let him pass me!
I had other things I wanted to say, but I'm holding back for reasons I won't get into here - and I don't feel any better for having done so. I'll wallow it in for a bit longer - at least until I feel confident enough to confront it.
So...happy Saturday and all that crap. Bleh.
